It is the end of September...

...and the dust has settled; with the summer ending and a new school year beginning.  Katy is rolling with her new, six day, block schedule.  She seems to enjoy most of her classes and really likes several of her teachers.  Her weekday activity schedule is very doable.  Her Storm karate team practice is on Mondays at 5:30, karate class on Wednesdays at 7:15 (this one is kind of hard to 'wait around for' and I'm not looking forward to going out once it is dark at this time...guess I'm a wimp), Triboro rehersal Thursdays from 4 - 6p, and back to karate on Fridays, with class and then assistant teaching in two of the younger kid's classes.  Kirk is great, doing the pick ups on Wednesday and Friday evenings on his way home from work.

I spent some time over the last few weeks, investigating some options to start getting me out and about.  Planned Parenthood posted a very interesting position; but it was full-time, on site, and would involve some statewide travel.  Not doable right now for me and the family.  I contacted the science department chair at Katy's school, reminding him of my interest in working on the science fair this year and any tutoring/volunteering position in the department...he replied that he was sending my info to the science team leaders in the high and middle school (which means I probably won't hear from them...I've been on the other side and know how stuff like this slips through the cracks).  But, I did have success responding to the Attleboro library's request for volunteers in the Children/Young Adult room and will be attending my training session this morning.  Because of Katy's volunteering over the past 4 years, I've gotten to know the two librarians a bit.  I feel comfortable in the library, given all the hanging around I've done, waiting for Katy.  Plus, I seem to be a bit simpatico with Amy, the Young Adult librarian, and specifically requested that we might work on a project together, over and above the mundane shelving I will most likely be doing.  Amy wants to get a book review program going for the older kids, like around Katy's age, and I think it is a fabulous idea.  So, hopefully, I will be helping her out with that too.

So, I've also been working on some pages, some of which I'll post here for you to enjoy.  Please feel free to send the blog link to other friends and family members...and remember you can always just follow the link at the bottom of my email signature!

Okay...so it has been several months...

...but I just uploaded a boatload of my 2011 digital pages for printing, so I thought I'd share a few here!
We took the boys for their first train ride last month!  They had been watching YouTube videos of the Attleboro Commuter Train (yes, we were amazed that anyone took photos of this) and called it the 'purple T train' for months.  The first thing they would ask when arriving at my door for a visit was to watch the Purple T Train video.  So...they were pretty thrilled when we actually went to Attleboro station and took the train two stops into Providence!  We had a great afternoon...and I'm sure will be taking the T Train again sometime soon!

Another thing the boys love to do when they are here is riding bikes!  We live in the perfect neighborhood for them to explore their biking talents!  Amazingly, with Tom's score at the yard sale last year, we have enough bikes for them all to ride, at least for now.  The littlest two wheeler is getting too small for even Alec to ride.
Katy and I got to watch a portion of the Royal Wedding live...it was on just about the same time we usually are up to go to school...so we watched for about a half hour and then left for our morning commute.  I realized that I have a BBC station on satellite radio, so we were able to listen to the rest of the wedding as we rode.  I remember getting up to watch Lady Di's wedding so many years ago...it was fun to share this with Katy!
Did I already post this?  We are so proud of Katy, who is now a third degree Brown Belt!  She is on her way to her adult Black Belt and loving it!
Katy's Grease performance was in June...she played quite a few parts but got her longest stage time singing the solo, Freddie My Love!  She did awesome...we were quite proud of her!
Yup...more karate news!  Katy took a special class at her dojo that was taught by the son of the father of Kempo karate (got that)?  I kept thinking Ghostbusters b/c his name was Ed Parker Jr, but the Ghostbusters guy was RAY Parker Jr.  I'm really dating myself! LOL!

We are fortunate to have several really nice nature trails about five minutes from our house.  We have taken advantage of the Attleboro Springs Trail several times now...beautiful land abutting the LaSalette Shrine.  It is a great place to take the boys...and this time, we tried to give them a lesson on map reading skills.  Guess it would help if they knew how to read!

Hope you all had a great 4th holiday and are enjoying this great summer weather!

Greetings from Sunny Florida!

We have escaped what has been a very chilly Spring and are enjoying the sunshine in Miami for a week!  We traveled down with Katy and her best friend Katie and have had an enjoyable time checking out the sights of southern Florida.  Monday, we spent the day getting orientated and shopping for food essentials.  Tuesday was our day in the Everglades, complete with tours of the local native american reservation, air boat ride through the glades, and lunch at a local BBQ pit.  Yesterday, we were up at dawn and did the four hour trip on US 1 through the keys to Key West, the southernmost tip of the US.  Beautiful scenery...gorgeous weather!  Spent our day there letting the girls shop and soaked up the tropical sights.  Today, we are hanging out...only thing scheduled is a trip to a local boutique mall (where I hope to score the Palm Tree Trollbead from the spring releases), mojitos by the pool and some Cuban food.  Oh...and of course, more Yoghurtland, the frozen yoghurt shop that the girls are addicted to...we haven't missed a day there!  We are looking forward to meeting up with some local friends over the next couple of days...and an Easter brunch on Sunday.  I've posted some photos on my facebook account...but here are a few for the blog:

Dear Edwina...

...Katy's 20th play with Triboro Youth Theater was tonight...and will repeat tomorrow at 2p.  She plays the part of Becky, one of Edwina's friends and a bubbly cheerleader.  Talk about good casting!  Katy did a GREAT job and looked wonderful up on stage!  We especially loved when she slid in from stage right as a 'napkin' for the skit about proper placement of eating utensils!  Also gotta love her in the cowboy hat!  I am so proud to have a daughter who is so at home on stage...she has such presence and seems so at ease! Here are some of the best pics from tonight...Hope to have a few more tomorrow of her accepting her 20th play trophy!

Fun Night with Thirteen Year Olds!

It is the end of February school vacation week...which was elongated by Katy getting the stomach flu two days before school let out.  She recovered...but a couple of days later, I got hit with it.  Worst stomach illness of my entire life...I swear!  Knocked out of commission (and needing to be close to the master bathroom) for 3 days...it was awful.  Luckily, I was feeling better to get ready for Katy's birthday celebration, which took place yesterday into today.  She had decided to 'ring in her teen age years' with three of her closest friends, doing mani/pedis, hair (thanks to Courtney), makeup (thanks to Katy) and then enjoying a Chinese meal at her local favorite restaurant, Asian Grill and Sushi Bar.  She loves the crystal chandeliers, the color changing lights that surround the bar and the cool bubbling water feature.  After dinner, we returned home to enjoy Paula Dean's Red Velvet Cake (minus the pecans b/c Katy doesn't love nuts) and the girls had a very well behaved sleep-over in the 'big room.'  They were great...they had fun...and Katy was happy.  We'll be celebrating again on Tuesday, March 1st, Katy's actual birthday, with another dinner out, just us three.  Enjoy the photos!

Our hair stylist for the afternoon, Courtney Parsons, did a fabulous job with the girls' hair!

Almost thirteen years old...our beautiful girl!
